L. R. WASMER IS DEAD
DECEASED WAS PIONEER LAUNDRYMAN IN THIS CITYL. R. Wasmer, who has been a familiar figure on the streets of Le Mars for more than thirty years, died on Sunday (April 26, 1914) night shortly before midnight following an illness of two weeks. For the ten days prior to his death he had been unconscious. His death was due to a stroke of paralysis and complications due to failing powers and old age, he having failed rapidly in the last few months. Leonard R. Wasmer was a native of Germany where he was born on November 24, 1842. His parents came to America in 1851 and settled in New York city. Mr. Wasmer lived in that city, working at the painting trade and was also a member of various times of different bands.
In 1882 he came to Le Mars which was his home until his death with the exception of a year or two when he made his residency in Hawarden. Mr. Wasmer conducted a laundry in Le Mars for about thirty years. He was married three times. He leaves a son and a daughter, Leonard R. Wasmer, who now conducts the laundry, and Mrs. Andrew Stennum, of this city. Mr. Wasmer was a pioneer of Le Mars and a member of one of the first bands organized in the city. He was intimately associated with the doings in early days and by reason of his long residence had a wide acquaintance a large number of friends.
The funeral services will be held at ten o'clock this morning at St. Joseph's church in this city and the interment made in the Catholic cemetery.
