James Frost, Former Resident and Publisher, Dies at Grand Mound
Services for James William Frost, 77, Grand Mound publisher and former Merrill resident who died Nov. 28 at his home, were Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 30, at the Kelly funeral home in Grand Mound. Knights of Pythias conducted grave side rites at the Evergreen cemetery there.
Relatives from a distance attending were John T. Harker, Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Penning and son, Wendel of LeMars; and Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Walker, Merrill.
Mr. Frost was born Oct 3, 1877, at Milden Hall, Suffolk county, England, son of Harry and Amy King Frost. He came to this county in 1890, and resided with his uncle, William Frost of Merrill.
He attended Merrill schools, and later assisted W. A. Julian in the Merrill Record office. He was married March 20, 1907 at Merrill to Elsie Mae Harker.
He was a printer and published newspapers at Thomson Illinois and Lost Nation before moving to Grand Mound 17 years ago and establishing the Grand Mound Record. He sold the newspaper last June 3.
He was a member of Linden lodge 214 Knights of Pythias which he was past chancellor commander and a member of Silver Glean temple, Pythian Sisters, Commercial club and Methodist church there.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. E. K. (Lovice) Crosby and a grandson, both of Clinton. Other relatives include Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Walker of Merrill, Mr and Mrs. John T. Harker of Sioux City and several nieces and nephews.
Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
