RICHARD GARDNER, 78, LIFELONG LE MARS RESIDENT IS DEAD

Richard Gardner, 78, a retired farmer and lifelong resident, died Saturday morning at
Sacred Heart hospital after a week's illness.

Mr. Gardner was born July 23, 1884, at LeMars. He married Ella Mae Branaugh on Jan. 15, 1915, at Yankton, S. D.

Survivors include the widow; two daughters, Lois Gardner of LeMars and Mrs. Edward (Thelma) Gauthier of Lowell, Mass.; two step-daughters, Mrs. Hugh (Edith) Sweeney of Emery, S. D., and Mrs. Alberta Crichton of Ravina, S. D.; three step-sons, George Branaugh of Hood River, Ore., Wilber Branaugh of Broadus, Mont., and Joseph Branaugh of LeMars; a sister, Mrs. William Utesch. of LeMars and a brother, W. T. Gardner of Winner, S. D.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Mauer funeral home. Rev. Milo Morris will officiate. Burial will be in the LeMars Memorial cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Harriet Middlestad Gardner, three infant children, two brothers and four sisters.
