Math Steffen, age 72, pioneer resident of this county and farmer near Kingsley, passed away at a Sioux City hospital where he has been receiving treatment for some time. The funeral was held today in Lincoln township, services being held at the Lincoln twp. church and burial made in the Lincoln twp. cemetery.
Deceased came from Wisconsin to Plymouth county many years ago and was a prominent farmer around Kingsley. He leaves several sons and daughters to mourn his loss, who live in Minnesota. One daughter is a nurse employed in a Sioux City hospital.
Mr. Steffen was an old friend of Chris Kramer and J. Schneider of this city, who attended the funeral.

Matthew Steffen, a pioneer settler of Elkhorn township, died in a Sioux City hospital, Saturday morning, after a lingering illness. He was born March 14, 1854, at Platteville, Wis., and on May 25, 1880 was united in marriage to Miss Christine Frieden. In 1883 they came to Plymouth county, locating on a farm northwest of Kingsley. In 1919 he moved to Kingsley where he resided until the time of his death.
He leaves to mourn his loss nine children: Mrs. Adeline Ginsbach; Mr. Bernard Steffen, of Kingsley; Mrs. Mary Kennedy, of Morningside; John Anthony and Frank, of Halliday, N. D.; Mrs. Rose Murray, of St. Paul, Minn. Two sisters, Mary Dolores and Christine Steffen of Sioux City; also three brothers, Peter, John and Neal, of Plattsville, Wis. His wife and one son preceded him in death.
Mr. Steffen was a kind and loving husband and father and a true friend to all who knew him.
The funeral was held at St. Michael’s church in Kingsley, and interment made at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Lincoln township. Sister Mary Dolores and Sister Mary Immaculate, of Sioux City, attended the funeral. Relatives from a distance were: Frank Steffen, of Halliday, N. D., Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Murray, of St. Paul, Minn., Peter, John and Neal Steffens, of Plattsville, Wis., and Miss Elizabeth Huppert of Mineral Point, Wis.
