John A. Gronemeyer

John A. Gronemeyer, 87, E. Cedar St. Cheorokee, Iowa, died Tuesday, (Aug. 5, 1980) in the Sioux Valley hospital, Cherokee, after an extended illness. He was an Akron resident until moving to Cheorkee in 1947.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Boothby funeral home, Cherokee. Pastor David Oswald officiated with burial in Memory Gardens.

Mr. Gronemeyer was born August 31, 1892 in Preston township. Plymouth county, Iowa, to Fred and Wilhelmina Barinsky Gronemeyer. He married Florence Meether, Jan. 7, 1920 at Hawarden. The couple farmed in Preston township prior to moving to Akron. Mrs. Gronemeyer died June 5, 1964.

He worked for Hall's Implement, Cherokee, for many years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran church, Cherokee. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of WWI barracks.

Survivors include a son Lloyd, and a daughter Mrs. Lorraine Pigott, both of Cheorkee; two grandchildren;four Great-grandchildren; two borthers, Fred Gronemeyer and William Gronemeyer both of Le Mars and a sister, Mrs. Caroline Barker of Le Mars.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and two brothers, George and Arthur.
