MRS. BESSIE WILCOX CALLED BY DEATH

Rites For Esteemed Akron Woman Are Held Wednesday

Mrs. Bessie Wilcox passed away at the Methodist Hospital in Sioux City, Monday, June 19, 1950, of pneumonia, after having suffered a fractured hip in a fall at her home about a month ago. She was nearly 73 years of age.

Bessie Jane Crow was born July 31, 1877, near Moundsvile, Marshall county, West Virginia, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Crow. At the age of 7 she moved with her parents to Ellendale, North Dakota. The following spring they located near Ludden, N. D., where she grew to young womanhood.

In the fall of 1894 they came to Iowa and farmed near Milnerville, Plymouth county. She attended Western Union college at Le Mars; the Normal College at Wayne, Nebr., and also the State Teachers College at Madison, S. D. She spent fifteen years teaching in the rural schools of Plymouth county, Iowa; Union County, S. D., and Charles Mix county, S. D.

One May 10, 1911, she was united in marriage with Frank E. Wilcox, and to this union two children were born, Floyd D. and M. Helen. They farmed in Union county, S. D., for a number of years. Mr. Wilcox passed away April 25, 1928. Mrs. Wilcox and children continued to live on the farm until 1937,when they moved to Akron.

Left to mourn her passing are one son, Floyd D., of Akron; on daughter, Mrs. Willard Johnson, of Odebolt, Iowa; five grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Denna Sayles, of Akron; one brother, L. V. Crow, of American Falls, Idaho; other relatives and a host of friends.

Mrs. Wilcox united with the Methodist church in early girlhood. She was held in high esteem for her many fine qualities.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Dan J. Peterson, pastor of the Baptist church. Singing was by a male quartet, J. A. Jenson, Karl Silkebakken, H. J. Behmer and J. R. Shoulbert, with accompaniment by Mrs. Mas Pollock. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.

Relatives attending the funeral services from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Willard Johnson, of Odebolt, Ia.; Ed. and Nettie Wilcox, of Canton, S. D., and Mr. and Mrs. Guy Leffingwell and daughter, of Lake Preston, S. D.
