DAVID KUNKEL
David Kunkel, 65, of rural Hinton died Saturday, June 29, 2002, in a motorcycle accident. David Joseph Kunkel was born June 15, 1937, in Le Mars, the son of J.A. and Mary (Ruppert) Kunkel. He grew up on a farm southeast of Le Mars and received his education at Gehlen Catholic Schools. He married De Ann Sitzmann September 3, 1960, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church-Neptune. Following their marriage the couple farmed for many years in Lincoln Township. For the last several years Dave has also been employed by Agro Distribution. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church-Neptune and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1381. Dave was an avid fan and promoter of motocross racing and he enjoyed riding his motorcycle. Survivors include his wife De Ann; six children Julie Rolling and her husband Glenn of rural Hinton, Joe Kunkel of Le Mars, Christi Kunkel of New York City; Curt Kunkel and his wife Kristi of Cherokee; Mark Kunkel; David Joseph Kunkel Jr. both of rural Hinton; six grandchildren; two brothers Milo Kunkel and his wife Nancy of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Willis Kunkel and his wife Shirley of rural Hinton; a sister Alice Vaske of Le Mars; his mother-in-law Rosella Sitzmann of Le Mars; Preceded him in death, his parents, a brother Milton Kunkel; a sister Lois Kunkel in infancy; his father-in-law Walter Sitzmann; two brother-in-law John Askren and Alphonse Vaske. Funeral services were held Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Burial was in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery-Neptune.
