S. Duane Kindig

S. Duane Kinig, 76, Westfield, Iowa, died Friday, Oct. 19, 1990 at the Akron City Convalescent Care Center after a long illness.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic church in Akron. Monsignor Gerlad Lyon officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery with military rites conducted by Hoschler American Legion post 186 of Akron. Funeral arrangements were under direction of Schroeder funeral home in Akron.

Pallbearers were Michael Gries, Shawn Jaminet, Bill Langley, Patrick Toben, Douglas Kindig, and Larry Kindig.

Mr. Kindig was born May 31, 1914, at Kingsley, Iowa to Guy and Ada (Beegley) Kindig. He was a World War II navy veteran. Mrs. Kindig died Sept. 25, 1986.

He was employed as a mechanic for Gassman Motors in Akron for many years, and was a welder at Load King in Elk Point for nine years. He also operated a tank wagon and ran a service station at Westfield for several years. He also operated Kindig's Place in Chatsworth.

Mr. Kindig was a former mayor of Westfield, and was an active member of the Akron Senior Citizens club in Akron. He lived in Chatsworth, Akron and Westfield areas, retiring to Westfield in 1978.

Survivors include a son, James and his wife, Mary of Sioux Falls; three daughters, Mrs. Darrell J. (Joellen)Toben of Westfield, Mrs. James (Janice) Gries of Lawton, and Mrs. Robert (Judy) Jaminet of Hinton; a special friend, Earlene Adams of Akron; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Garold "Scootch" Kindig of Kingsley, and Guy Jr. of Sioux City; a sister, Mrs. Ossie (Gwen) Langley of Westfield; and a half-brother, Larry Froham of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by a son, Johathan, and a grandson, Joseph.
