Herbert J. Ross

Herbert J. Ross, 67, Orangevale, Calif., a former Akron-Westfield resident, a retired California state police officer died September 5, 1984, in California of a heart ailment.

Services were held Sept. 8 at the Mount Vernons Church of the Valley, with Father Walsh officiating. Burial was in the Mount Vernon Memorial Park Court of Honor. Pallbearers and honor guard were members of the California state police.

Mr. Ross was born April 1, 1917, in South Dakota, and lived in the Sacramento area for 39 years. He was a California state police officier for 24 years, retiring in 1972. He also operated the A-1 Auto Dismantlers in North Sacramento and West Sacramento, selling the business after he retired. He lived in Iowa several years after his retirement before returning to Sacramento. He was an army veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion. he was past president of the California State Police Association, retired.

Mr. Ross is survived by his wife, Margaret; a son, Lloyd E. Dillion of North Highlands, Calif.; four sisters, Helen Schmidt of Santa Rosa, Calif., Dorothy Kindig, Westfield, Marjorie Omohundro of Texas, and Helen DeLaurler of San Jose, Calif.; two grandchildren, Daniel L. and Renae J. Dillon of North Highland.
