Lois Willms, 95, of Akron, Iowa passed away Monday, April 28, 2014 at the Akron Care Center in Akron.
Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron. Reverend Don Nelson of Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron will officiate. Private family inurnment will be Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation with the family present will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home and following the service during a time of lunch and fellowship at the Akron Golf Club.
Lois B. Hilliker was born December 18, 1918 to Waldo and Mona (Martin) Hilliker. She attended school in Akron and graduated from Akron High School.
She was united in marriage to Henry “Hank” C. Willms on June 24, 1940 in Sioux City, Iowa. Early on, they moved to Primghar, Iowa before traveling to different parts of the country for Hank’s job, living in Kentucky and Oklahoma, before settling on a farm Union County, South Dakota. They farmed in Union County until retiring. Hank passed away November 18, 1983. Lois continued to live on the farm until moving to assisted living in 2007. In 2013, she became a resident of the Akron Care Center.
Through the years, she and Hank enjoyed square dancing. Lois also enjoyed gardening and floral design, sewing and baking. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her children: Rodney (Doris) Willms of Minneapolis, MN, Ronda (Bob) Milner of Sioux City, IA, Renita (Mike) Daugherty of Cleveland, OH, Randy Willms of Akron, and Ronelle (Rick) Kelley of Akron; 13 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; her brother: Earl (Dee) Hilliker of Akron; and two nieces: Sherry Rasmussen of Sioux City and Nan (Tracy) Ankrum of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hank; and a son in infancy: Roger Keith Willms.
Memorials can be made in Lois’s name to the Akron Care Center and/or Hospice of Siouxland.
