Dwain Willer, 83, of Akron, Iowa passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Hawarden Regional Healthcare in Hawarden, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2014 at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron. Reverend Don Nelson of Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron will officiate. Burial with military honors provided by the Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron will be in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation with the family present will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Monday at the funeral home.

Dwain John Willer was born November 2, 1930 on the family farm near Akron, Iowa, the son of John L. and Bessie (Raish) Willer. He attended Breezy Hill #5 country school in Westfield township, rural Plymouth County, Iowa. Later, he attended school in Westfield (IA) and graduated from Westfield High School. Following his schooling, he farmed with his father near Akron.

He was drafted into the United States Army. He served his country in Korea during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge, he returned back home to continue farming and feeding cattle. He farmed southeast of Akron until retiring in 1995. Following his retirement, he continued to live on the farm.

Through the years, Dwain enjoyed working on his John Deere tractors and being outdoors. He also enjoyed woodworking. Following his retirement, he traveled throughout the United States with his friends. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his sister: Donna Martin of Akron; nieces and nephews; and special friends: Dale and Deb DeRocher and family of rural Akron.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters: Helen (John) Dirks, Stella (Gerhardt) Claassen, Vera (Bernard) McMahon, Betty Jean (Jay) Hamman, and Belva (Marvin) Watters; his brothers in law: Darrel Caskey and Glen Martin; and a nephew: Douglas (Sandra) Caskey.
