HOLD RITES FOR A FORMER UNION COUNTY RESIDENT
Mrs. Dorothy G. Travers Dies December 5 After A Long Illness
Funeral services were held in Wednesday afternoon of last week for Mrs. Dorothy Greenwood Travers, who passed away Saturday, December 5, 1959, at the Topeka, Kansas, Veterans' Hospital, after a lingering illness, aged 39 years, 8 months, and 9 days.
Dorothy Majorie Greenwood, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Connie Greenwood, was born March 26, 1920, west of Akron in Union county, S.D. She attended Pleasant Hill rural school and Akron High school, graduating in 1938, afterward attending Aberdeen (S. D.) College for one year. She served as a WAVE in World War II. In 1941 she was united in marriage with Michael Travers at Cambridge, Maryland.
Left to mourn her departure are a daughter, Marjorie Joy Travers; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Connie Greenwood, of Akron; two sisters, Mrs. Mattie Jean Dunn and Mrs. Betty Ann Rager, of Sioux City; four brothers, Wayne Greenwood, of Akron; Capt. Warren Greenwood, of Novato, Calif.; Donald Greenwood, of Mt. Clemens, Mich., and Lt. James Greenwood, serving in the Airforce in Germany, and other relatives and many friends.
Officiating at the final rites was Rev. C. L. Guinn. The vocalist, Mrs. C. L. Guinn, sang "My Faith Looks Up to Thee" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Mrs. Orin Harris was accompanist. Pallbearers were Arnold Klemme, Lesley Anderson, Luverne Klemme, Stanley Anderson, Martin Sommervold and Oscar Anderson. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
