Gordon C. "Gordy" Arens, 49, of Akron died Saturday, August 7, 2004 in an automobile accident in Monona County.
A memorial service was held August 10 at First Baptist Church in Akron with Rev. Jon Meredith officiating. Gordy's wish was for his final resting place to be in rural Akron where he spent many of his best years.
Gordon Arens was born November 1, 1954 in Akron, the oldest son of Jim and Lois Ann (Jammerthal) Arens. He attended school in Akron and Le Mars. He married Linda Kay Peterson on April 19,1972 and they lived in rural Akron. He was a farmer in the Akron area and in his early years he operated a corn sheller that belonged to his grandfather. In 1987, Gordy purchased his grandparent's farm just outside of Akron and raised his family. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an animal lover; in his free time, Gordy like to hunt and fish. His real love was family, especially spending time with his grandchildren. In the past few years, Gordy spent his time in the Le Mars and Merrill areas with his grandchildren and his parents. He spent the past year in the Onawa area in what he said was the most beautiful country. He recently told his daughter, Tammy, "You've got to see it, I was sitting on a hill in my Pathfinder and a deer walked right up to the window." Gordy was a loving and caring man who'll be dearly missed by all his family and friends.
