HOLD RITES FOR A FORMER AKRON BOY
Burial Service For Gerald Gale Held Here Saturday Morning
Friends in Akron were grieved to learn of the death of a promising young man, Gerald Gale, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Gale, of 1214 W. Second street, Sioux City, Iowa, former residents of Akron. He passed away Saturday night, May 9, 1942, in a hospital at Phoenix, Ariz., of meningitis, after a two weeks illness which developed from pneumonia.
Gerald was born May 17, 1921, in Akron, Iowa, and attended school here before the famiily moved to Sioux City seven years ago, when he attended West Junior high school. The youth was a scholarship student at the Arizona State Teachers college at Tempe, Ariz., after his graduation in 1941 from Central high school in Sioux City, being voted during his senior year at Central high, where he was also a member of the Hi-Y club and served as vice-president of the Civics club. He served as cheer leader both at Central high and college. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic church in Sioux City.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Gale received word of the death of their son when they reached North Platte, Nebr., while they were on their way from Sioux City to his bedside at Phoenix.
Surviving besides the parents, are two younger brothers, Arnold and Arthur; a sister, Rose Marie, of Sioux City, and grandparents, Mrs. Elizabeth Boden, and Mr. and Mrs. John Gale, of Akron.
Funeral services were held at St. Boniface Catholic church, Sioux City, last Friday morning 9:30 o’clock, Rev. Father Frederick Beek officiating.
The pallbearers were Gerald’s friends, Albert Van Hazel, Jimmie Burns; Billie Robert, Irvin Gevot, Donald Burke, and Bob Johnson, of Sioux City.
Interment was in the Akron Catholic cemetery, with many local friends present. W. Harry Christy was in charge of arrangements.
