HOLD LAST RITES FOR JOHN GALE

Death Comes Saturday To Long Time Resident Of This Community

John Gale, an early pioneer resident of Plymouth county and one of Akron’s oldest citizens, passed away Saturday, January 15, 1955, in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Sioux City, where he had been cared for during the past several months. He had been in failing health for some time. due to the infirmities of advanced age. He observed his 92nd birthday last Christmas day.

Mr. Gale was born December 25, 1862, at Galena, Ill. He came to Plymouth county at the age of 16 and farmed many years in Plymouth county before moving to Akron where he served as commissioner of streets for 12 years. He married Bridget Dolan on January 3, 1886, at Ellendale, Plymouth county, Iowa. She preceded him in death on November 26, 1948.

Surviving are three sons, Ralph, of Sioux City, and Lawrence and Earl, of Akron; a daughter, Miss Viola Gale, of Akron; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

A kind and devoted husband and father, an industrious and highly esteemed citizen, he will be missed by the many friends gained during his long residence in this community.

Funeral services were held here Tuesday morning in St. Patrick’s Catholic church, Rev. Fr. Wingent, of Struble, officiating. Acting as pallbearers were Chas. Burnight, Clarence Aalfs, Frank Simeon, Fred Popken, Ross Root, and Henry Harms. Burial was in Calvary cemetery at Le Mars.
