Charles “Chuck” McWilliams, 69, of Le Mars died Friday, September 29, 2000, at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Memorial services were held on Monday, October 2. Interment was in West Lawn Cemetery, Fort Dodge, Iowa. Charles “Chuck” Nicholas McWilliams was born March 31, 1931, in Lehigh, Iowa, to George and Blanche (Daniels) McWilliams. Chuck received his education in Lehigh, Iowa, and graduated from Lehigh High School in 1949. Chuck served his country during the Korean Conflict enlisting in the United States army in March of 1951 completing his basic training at Fort Riley, Kansas. He was trained as an infantryman. Soon afterwards he was transferred in the 91st Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion in Germany where he was promoted to Staff Sergeant. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge Occupational Medal for service in Germany, Korean Service Ribbon with three bronze stars, the United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. Chuck received and honorable discharge in February of 1954 when he returned to Lehigh, Iowa. Chuck was united in marriage to Bernadeen Quick on August 30, 1955, at the Fulton Lutheran Church Roelyn, Iowa. He worked for Fort Dodge Laboratories a veterinary pharmaceutical company and in 1962 transferred with the company to California where they lived until 1966 when the family moved to Le Mars. Chuck worked for Well’s Dairy for 17 years then for Culligan Water in Le Mars for 5 years until his retirement in 1994. During his retirement years he worked for Nelson Electric. Chuck was a member of the Wasmer American Legion Post 241 of Le Mars. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid golfer. Survivors include his wife Bernadeen “Bernie) McWilliams of Le Mars; a son and daughter-in-law David and Marrae McWilliams of Remsen, Iowa; two daughters, Diane Hay and her husband Kenneth of Hinton, Iowa, and Doreen McWilliams of Le Mars; 6 grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law Richard and Margaret McWilliams of Quincy, Illinois; a sister, Maxine Bethel of Lehigh, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. Chuck preceded in death by his parents; a sister Evelyn McWilliams in infancy; a daughter-in-law Deb McWilliams; a brother-in-law William Bethel.
