Edith Kowalke, 87, of Le Mars, Iowa, died Sunday, February 13, 2000, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars. The former Edith Rose Kucker was born December 22, 1912, at Troy, South Dakota, the daughter of Guy and Rose (Springer) Kucker. Edith attended country school near Troy. On October 5, 1946, she married Albert Kowalke at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton. The couple farmed east of Hinton for many years. Edith and Albert moved to Le Mars in 1963. She worked as a cook for Le Mars Central high School from 1963 until her retirement in 1978. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law James and Anita Kray of Boyden, Iowa; William and Lois Kray of Vinton, Iowa; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law Lloyd and Bennie Kucker of Mitchell, South Dakota; Kenneth and Grace Kucker of Watertown, South Dakota; four sisters Flossie Inman of Vinton; Muriel Larson of Paw Paw, Illinois; Ruth Nelson of Rapid City, South Dakota; Mabel O’Neal of Des Moines, Iowa; Edith preceded in death by her parents; her husband Albert on December 6, 1988, and 12 brothers and sisters. Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton. Burial in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
