Last Rites for Christina Bellwood Are Held Sunday Afternoon
Christina Bellwood, an early day resident of this vicinity, passed away at her home in this city Friday morning, December 17, 1937, at the age of 69 years, 3 months, and 6 days, after a several weeks’ illness.
Christina White, daughter of Edward and Louisa Bellwood, was born September 11, 1868, in New Canaan, Connecticut, where she spent her girlhood. About the year 1871 she came west with her parents and located in Sioux Valley township, Union county, S. D., (then Dakota Territory), where they experienced the trials and vicissitudes of the pioneer settlers. She resided there until about the year 1917, when she came to Akron and has since resided here.
She was converted at about the age of seventeen and has lived a consistent Christian life ever since. Christ was to her the reality of realities, and she trusted in Him and always found in religion a great comfort for the trials and troubles of life.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother.
She leaves to mourn her departure, one sister, Mrs. Carrie L. Whitney, of Rossville, Kansas, who was at her beside and administered loving care and attention during her last days; two brothers, Arthur Bellwood, of Akron, and Edward Bellwood, of South Sioux City, Nebr., and other relatives and many friends who extend sympathy to the sorrowing ones.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, at 1:45 o’clock at the home and at 2 o’clock in the Akron M. E. church, conducted by Rev. J. F. Moore. Hymns were sung by Mary and Eunice Burket. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
