HAWARDEN, Iowa -- Herbert "Herb" Harm Frerichs, 93, of Hawarden, formerly of Akron, Iowa, passed away Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at Hillcrest Health Care Center.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden, with the Rev. Todd Bunge officiating. Private family burial of the cremated remains will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton, Iowa. Visitation will begin at noon Sunday, with the family present at 5 p.m. and a prayer service at 6 p.m., at Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Herb was born Sept. 12, 1918, near Akron, Iowa, the son of Johann D. and Mary (Nannen) Frerichs. Herb served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippine Theater.
He married Margaret Ellen Ronsiek of Hawarden on June 15, 1942. They were to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary this year.
Herb and Margaret moved to the family farm in 1948. Herb did general farming, working part time at McNally Grain Elevator.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret; three daughters, Betty Dorsey, Donna Frerichs and Carol Kurth Frerichs; a son, Keith Frerichs; a son-in-law, Tim Kurth; grandchildren, Myron (Kathryn) Dorsey and Jodie (Dorsey) (Dan) Chadima; great-grandchildren, Calvin Chadima, Sophia Chadima, Sarah Chadima, Dean Dorsey and Theola Dorsey; and several other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Albert, Ben, Louis and Edwin; two sisters, Clara Satthoff and Edna Marshall; a son-in-law, Dale Dorsey; and a brother-in-law, Harold Ronsiek.
