LLOYD KOUNKEL
Lloyd Michael Kounkel was born March 24, 1912, on the family farm in Stanton Township rural Plymouth County Iowa to William and Elizabeth (Erbes) Kounkel. Lloyd was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. Lloyd attended country school at Stanton #8. He was united in marriage to Maria Muecke on May 3, 1938, at Trinity Lutheran Church. The couple farmed in Stanton Township until 1968, when they moved to Le Mars and Lloyd began his career with Sioux Tools retiring in 1978. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he enjoyed his status as “honorary voting member" of the church. Lloyd enjoyed cap collecting, fishing, youth baseball and softball, where he was often called upon to umpire, and in his later years the “coffee gang” at the Pantry Café. Survivors include his wife, Maria, of Le Mars; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lawrence and Mary Kounkel of Monticello, MN; Kenneth and Sandi Kounkel of Cumberland, MD; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Dan Carney of Altoona, Iowa; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Fern and Emil Grosenheider of Le Mars; a brother and sister-in-law, Elden and Edna Kounkel of Le Mars. He preceded in death by his parents, a brother William in infancy and a sister Evelyn Stabe.
