Charles E. "Chuck" Hoffman Sr., 89, of Sioux City died Friday, April 27, 2007, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Ralph Shorey officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Chuck was born April 27, 1918, in Hinton, Iowa, the son of John and Clara (Beck) Hoffman. He was a resident of Sioux City most of his life. He attended public schools in Sioux City, Morningside College, Armed Forces Institute and graduated from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers School of Engineering at Fort Belvoir, Va.

He served in England as a battalion supply sergeant and in the South Pacific as a first lieutenant in the amphibious engineers. He was a member of the Reserves thereafter until being called again to active duty during the Korean Conflict.

He married Ruth Weidenschilling on Aug. 17, 1941, in Sioux City. They were married for 62 years before Ruth died Nov. 13, 2003, in Sioux City. He worked in the insurance industry as a district representative for the Aid Association for Lutherans (now Thrivent Financial) until his retirement in 1983. He had attained membership in the President's Cabinet for each of the 30 years served. He received the National Quality Award for 25 years and National Sales Achievement award for 22 years.

He was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church, having held various offices since its inception in 1959.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Judy and Roy Campen of Savage, Minn.; a son and his wife, Charles and Ruth Hoffman Jr. of New Brighton, Minn.; three brothers, Robert Hoffman of Cleveland, Ohio, Gene Hoffman and his wife, Norma of Sioux City and Kenneth Hoffman and his wife, Cherryll of Sioux City; a sister, Betty Leapley of O'Fallon, Mo.; two grandsons, Steven Campen and his wife, Kimberly and David Campen; and four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Hannah, Alyssa and Nathaniel.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers, Irvin, Wayne and Donald; five sisters, Lois Birchler, Esther Eyler, Lorraine Greive, Ethel Craft and Darlene Nelson; and a granddaughter-in-law, Lisa Campen.

Pallbearers will be Steven Campen, David Campen, Gary F. Conway, Ross Beisner, Don Schultz and Don Veltkamp. Honorary pallbearer will be Tyrone Greive.
