Irvin Carl Hoffman, 88, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Sept. 10, 2004 in Sioux City.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Leo Kostizen officiating. Services will conclude at the church. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Irvin was born to John Hoffman and Clara (Beck) Hoffman in Hinton, Iowa on May 12, 1916. He grew up and attended Woodrow Wilson and Central High School. He entered the U.S. Army on Aug. 25, 1942, and was honorably discharged in aircraft and artillery on Oct. 23, 1945.

Irvin married Edna Stoltze on Dec. 30, 1945. He worked as a carpenter at Walensky Lumber and was also an automobile mechanic. Irvin retired in 1984.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Edna; three sons and their wives, Paul and Chris Hoffman of Cave Creek, Ariz., James and Gwen Hoffman of Hope Mills, N.C., and Warren and Linda Hoffman of Prescott, Ariz.; four brothers, Charles, Robert, Gene and Kenneth Hoffman; four sisters, Ethel Craft, Darlene Nelson, Lorraine Grieve and her husband, Don and Betty Leapley; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Don and Wayne Hoffman; two sisters, Lois and Esther; and a granddaughter, Jill.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Siouxland.
