John Hoffman

John C. Hoffman, 90, a resident of the Sioux City Westwood nursing home died Thursday afternoon (Aug. 5, 1976) at the home after a long illness.

Mr. Hoffman was born Aug. 18, 1885, in Lincoln township in Plymouth county. He Married Clara A. Beck, May 4, 1909, at Le Mars.

The couple farmed in Plymouth county until 1924 when they moved to Sioux City. he was a machinist and blacksmith, working at Wincharger Corp. from 1936 to his retirement in 1958. He was the oldest member of the pioneer club at Wincharger. Mr. Hoffman was also the oldest member of St. Paul Lutheran church in Sioux City.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 9, 1976, at St. Paul church. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery in Sioux city under direction of the Anderson-Perasso funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons.

Survivors are his wife; six daughters, Mrs. Donald (Lorraine) Greive, Mrs. Ross (Ethel) Craft, Mrs. Darlene Nelson. Mrs. Don (Betty) Leapley, all of Sioux City. mrs. Marvin (Esther)Eyler of Sergeant Bluff, and Mrs. Lester (Lois) Birchler of Grand rapids, Mich.; five sons, Irvin, Charles, Eugene and Kenneth, all of Sioux City and Robert of Lake Elsinore, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Emma Holt of Burle, Neb.; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
