HINTON, Iowa -- Ronald E. "Ron" Pridie, 62, of rural Hinton passed away Friday, May 13, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellendale, Iowa, with the Rev. Dan Greving officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery at Ellendale, with military honors. Visitation will be 4 to 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Ron was born Oct. 9, 1948, in Sioux City, the son of Charles E. and Betty (Burnett) Pridie. He grew up in rural Hinton and graduated from Hinton High School. On June 8, 1968, he married Glenda K. Bunch at St. Joseph Church in Ellendale. From 1968 until 1972, he served with the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Vietnam for a year.
Ron worked for Wells Blue Bunny for 35 years and retired in 2007. He also helped his dad farm until 1992. Ron enjoyed working part time with his son in recent years.
Ron's pride and joy was his grandkids. He was looking forward to his proudest moment, his first granddaughter's graduation this year and Taelyr being a recipient of a full scholarship to ISU. Grandpa Ron was overjoyed with the addition of grandsons last summer. He enjoyed grooming his yard with his John Deere mower. He was even more meticulous about keeping his vehicles in mint condition. He was a member of St. Joseph Church and a member of American Legion Casper Post 477 of Hinton.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 43 years, Glenda; four children and their spouses, Brenda and Darin Wright of Sioux City, Shelley and John Ullrich of Norfolk, Neb., Tonya and Jason Jasperson of Kingsley, Iowa, and Jason and Samantha Pridie of Hinton; his parents, Charles and Betty Pridie of Hinton; a brother and his wife, Rick and Rose Ann Pridie of Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Taelyr, Kaelyn and Jaemee Wright, Abby Ullrich, Carter Jasperson and Lauren and Brennen Pridie; a special cousin and his wife, Dennis and Janice Trometer of Jamaica, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents-in-law, Jack and Nadine Clarey.
Pallbearers will be Bruce Lahrs, Ron Vehe, Jeff Pridie, Matt Pridie, Keith Copenhaver and Will Poulson. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
