Bertha H. Briley, 100, of Le Mars, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Bertha H. Briley was born Jan. 4, 1913, in Struble, the daughter of Edo Ammen and Nettie Marie (Schultz) Harms. She began her education at country school near her home. Bertha furthered her education by graduating from Le Mars High School in 1930.

She moved to California to attend college and met Paul C. Briley. The couple was united in marriage on April 6, 1947, in Beverly Hills. They made their home in North Hollywood.

Bertha returned to Iowa in 2006 to be closer to her family.

Bertha worked as an administrative assistant for Lerner Real Estate for 57 years. She never retired as she continued to work while a resident at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars. Prior to Plymouth Manor, Bertha lived at Park Place estates where she became good friends with Amy Becker, a fellow centenarian.

Bertha was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars. While in California, she was a member of St. Paul's First Lutheran Church where she served as secretary and treasurer.

She will be lovingly remembered by her sister, Pearl Brunstedt, of Merrill; a sister-in-law, Elaine Harms, of Sioux City, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul, on June 16, 1992; an infant sister, Nettie; brothers, George, Charlie, Albert, Fred and Jackie; sisters, Margaret (Alfred) Bowers and Amelia (Jim) Ruhlow; a niece, Sally Kass; and nephews, Don Prather and Dennis Gross.

Funeral services will be at 5:30 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The Rev. Timothy Geitz of Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars will officiate. Burial will take place later this week at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in North Hollywood, Calif.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home. The family will be present from 4-8 p.m.
