Jerry Cowan, 63, of Hinton died Friday, May 14, 1999, at a Sioux City hospital. Services were held Tuesday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Sioux City. Cremation followed the funeral with burial to be held at a later date. Mr. Cowan was born December 18, 1935, in Sioux City, the son of Ray and Wanda (Zweifel) Cowan. He grew up in the Leeds area and graduated from Leeds High School. He married Beverly Carlson on October 28, 1960, in Lake Andes, South Dakota. He farmed near Leeds until 1973 when he moved east of Hinton to continue farming. He enjoyed boating, water and snow skiing and traveling. Survivors include his wife, a son and his wife Doug and Debra of Hinton, four daughters; Lori Cowan of Naperville, Illinois, Teresa Cowan-Piersma and her husband Scott of Sioux City, Debra Casey and her husband Kelly of Lamar, Arkansas, Joan Brazil and her husband Bob of Fort Smith, Arkansas, his mother Wanda Cowan of Sioux City, two brothers and their wives, Terry and Bertha of Ankeny, Iowa, Charles and Marlene of Litchfield, Minnesota, 11 grandchildren. He preceded in death by his father.
