MONROE, TROBAUGH, WHITEAD

HINTON, Iowa -- Veva E. Monroe, 66, of rural Hinton died unexpectedly Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City, with the Rev. Walter Clark of Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Monroe was born Dec. 8, 1939, in rural Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of Robert W. and Opal E. (Whitead) Trobaugh. She attended a one-room country school for a brief time. She completed her education in Sioux City Public Schools.

She married Carleton W. Monroe on Sept. 23, 1955, in Sioux City. She helped numerous people in Sioux City with home maintenance for many years.

She enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, canning and puzzles. She especially enjoyed raising her three sons and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an active member of Church of Christ, located at 2111 West Sixth Street.

Survivors include her husband, Carleton; three sons, Randall S. Monroe and his special friend, Helene Gary of Sioux City, Daryl W. Monroe of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Robert C. Monroe and his wife, Debra of Sheldon, Iowa; three brothers and their wives, Mahlon and Kathy Trobaugh of Sioux City, Tom and Sharone Trobaugh of Mondovi, Wis., and Orvis and Connie Trobaugh of Sioux City; four grandchildren; a stepgrandchild; eight great-grandchildren; a great-stepgrandchild; and many special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Delbert; and two stillborn babies.

Pallbearers will be Duane Whitead, Wesley Whitead, Mike Monroe, Carl C. Monroe, Robert Gwin and Denny Ortner.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established.
