Josephine Barr
Josephine Barr, 84, of Akron, died Sunday, April 28, 1991, at the Akron Care Center of a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s Catholic church in Akron. Monsignor Gerald Lyon will officiate. Burial will follow in Ellendale cemetery at rural Merrill, under direction of Schroeder funeral home in Akron. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday with a scripture prayer service at 8 p.m.
Mrs. Barr, the former Josephine Beaulieu, was born Nov. 24, 1906 in Plymouth county to Alex and Elizabeth Beaulieu at rural Hinton. She married Allen Doane Sept. 5, 1924. He died march March 17, 1961. She married Hayes Barr, Sept. 5, 1962. He died March 13, 1982.
She entered the Akron Care Center 1985. She was employed as a cook and a waitress for many years, working at Tom’s Cafe in Hawarden; Hoffman’s Café in Westfield; Pantry Café in Le Mars; Akron Bowl, Hi-way Café and Josie’s Café in Akron.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Margie and Albert Pies of Summit, S. D.; one sister Viola Berghuis of Hull, Iowa; one granddaughter, Bernadine Breske of Summit; two grandsons, James and Stephen Pies, both of Summit; four great-grandchildren; two step-daughters, Mrs. Elmer (Maurine) DeJager of Hawarden and Frances Newman of Mountain Home, Ark.; and one step-son, Robert Barr of Knoxville, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, and one step-daughter, Betty Parks of Hawarden.
