Goldie I. Barr, 96, of Hawarden died Sunday, June 1, 2003 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden. Funeral services were June 3 at the Hawarden Community Church with Rev. Doug Baker officiating. Burial will be in the Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden.

Goldie I. Barr was born May 16, 1907 in Hawarden, the daughter of Albert and Jane (Lee) Goodrich. She married Hayes Barr. She later married Garvis Z. Barr. He preceded her in death. Goldie worked in the defense plant in Waterloo, Iowa during WWII. She did housekeeping for many homes in Hawarden. Goldie moved to the Hillcrest Health Care Center in September of 1999.

She was a member of the Hawarden Community Church. Goldie enjoyed going to the Hawarden Senior Citizen Center and enjoyed going for coffee with her daughter.

Survivors include two daughters, Maurine De Jager and husband Elmer of Hawarden and Frances I. Newman of Rogers, Ark.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Goldie was preceded in death by two sons, Junior H. Barr and Robert E. Barr; a daughter, Betty Jean Parks; three brothers, Lowell, Ernest and Walter; a sister, Delphine Johnson; five sisters in infancy; and a son-in-law, Estel Earl Newman.
