CHRISTY MOFFATT CALLED BY DEATH
Rites Held Monday For Esteemed Local Farm Resident
Christy Moffatt, a well known and esteemed resident of Westfield township, passed away Friday, March 16, at the home of his son, Harold, near Akron, after suffering a heart attack, aged 72 years, 2 months, and 21 days.
George Christy Moffatt was born near Pierson, Iowa, on Deborn near Pierson, Iowa, on December 25th, 1888, to parents, Frank and Maybelle Moffatt. At the age of eleven he moved with his family to a farm near Westfield, where he lived most of the remainder of his life. On February 15, 1917, he was united in marriage with Ester Boyd, Akron. To this union were born three sons, and one daughter.
The survivors include his wife, Esther; one daughter Lucille Harkness of Le Mars; three sons, Allen of Westfield, Harold of Akron, and Frank of Sioux City; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Julia Vande Braak of Slayton, Minnesota, and Mrs. BessieElliot of Akron; three brothers, Melvin, of Akron; three brothers, Melvin, of Akron; three brothers, Melvin, of Wagner, S.D., Clarence of Beverly Hills, Calif., and Vinton of Slayton, Minn..
He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles, of Sioux City.
Mr. Moffatt was a member of the Congregational church at Westfield. As a respected member of the community, he served on the Sioux township school board and also as township trustee for many years. He was a devoted husband and father and will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoonin the Westfield Congregational church, Rev. C. L.Guinn officiating. Music was by Guinn officiating. Music was by the Congregational Choir, with Mrs. Keith Knapp as pianist.
Pall bears were Roy, Tom, Arch and Byron Dreeszen , David Lilly, and Ed Nelson,
Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
