Leonard Wessels, 73, of Le Mars, died suddenly Saturday, April 22, 1995, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Services were held Tuesday, April 25 at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Larry Feet officiating. Burial was in the Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars, with graveside military honors by the Heeren- McHale-Wilkens American Legion Post #724 of Burnsville. Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Weasels was born June 13, 1921. at rural Ireton. the son of Herman and Sophia (Janssen) Wessels. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Christ Lutheran Church, Grant Township, rural Le Mars. He received his education in rural schools near Ireton. He served in the United States Navy during World War II from Nov. 1942 to Jan. 1946. On Jan. 10, 1943, he married Iva Ehlers at Ireton. He worked as a farmer and carpenter for many years, the couple moved to Le Mars in 1983 and he worked for Lamperta Lumber Yard. During his retirement he was still active in the construction business and was working for Gary Borchers Construction at the time of his death. He was a member of-Grace Lutheran Church and the Burnsville American Legion.

Survivors include his wife; a grandson, Joshua Wessels of Fort Riley, Kan.; a granddaughter and her husband. Raquel and Paul Kolker of Le Mars; two sisters and their husbands. Alma and Walter Westergard of Hawarden, and Bemlce and Leonard Dixon of Coos Bay. Ore.; and. his mother-in-law, Flossie Ehlers of Le Mars.

He was preceded In death by his parents; a son. Arnold Weasels; a brother, Armin Wessels. and a sister, Evelyn Koemer.
