Arnold R. Wessels, 33, was killed instantly March 26, 1980, in a 30-foot fall from a construction scaffold at Ione, Calif.

His parents, Leonard and Iva Wessels of Ireton, attended memorial services held at El Cajon, Calif. The services were conducted by the Neptune society with his ashes carried out to sea the next day.

Mr. Wessels was born Dec.8, 1946, at Hawarden. He graduated from Le mars Community high school in 1965.

He entered the navy a year later. He served in the navy for ten years, he was discharged in 1976 as an I.C.E. first class petty officer.

Surviving are his wife, Roberta, a daughter, Raquel Jean,in Hawarden; and a son, Joshua Allen,Alpine,Calif.; his parents, Mr. and Mrs.Leonard Wessels, Ireton, and his grandparents, Mr. Herman Wessels, Le Mars; Florence Ehlers, Ireton, and Carl Ehlers,Veterans Administration hospital, Sioux Falls.
