Struble, Ia., Jan. 28 (Special—Peter MacKinnon, one of Plymouth county’s pioneers, was born near Quebec, Can., on Dec. 20,1848 and died Monday, Jan. 25, 1926 at the age of 77 years, 1 month and 5 days. Peter MacKinnon’s ancestors were of Scottish descent, having immigrated to Canada. He was reared on the farm and received his early education in the public schools.
At the age of 21 years in the spring of 1871, he came to Plymouth county, Iowa, and preempted a tract of 80 acres in Johnson twp., later selling it and buying larger place which has been his home ever since. Mr. MacKinnon held various offices in the community and was every ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
In 1883 Peter MacKinnon was united in marriage to Emma Gilland to this union three children wee born; Miss Maude, Kenneth, and Sterling, who with the widow are left to mourn a good husband and a loving father.
Mr. MacKinnon was in failing health for the past six months, but was not in a serious condition. On Sunday he suddenly took a change for the worse and from this attack he never railed, passing away Monday evening.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Albright at the Crathorne church. Thursday afternoon and burial was made in the Crathorne cemetery. J. H. MacKinnon of Hawarden is a brother of the deceased and Mrs. A. H. Thomas of Crathorne and Mrs. Flora Gregg of Le Mars are nieces. A large number of neighbors and friends attended the funeral to pay their last respects to their departed friend.
