Harvey Peters, 77, of Hawarden died Wednesday, Oct. 22, at Hawarden Hospital after experiencing years of poor health with rare disease of Amyloidosis.

Services were Oct. 25 at United Methodist Church in Hawarden with Rev. Tim Walker officiating. Burial in Riverside Cemetery in Akron with Military Honors by Hawarden VFW and American Legion.

He was born Nov. 20, 1925 in Greenview, IL., the son of John D. & Mina (Hillrichs) Peters. He graduated from Akron High School in 1943. In Feb of 1944 he joined the US ARMY and served in England, France and Germany. He was discharged in May of 1946. On Oct. 1, 1948 he married Arlys L. Luhrs in Windom, MN. He was employed in serveral businesses in Akron, including Peters Garage, Lorensen's Service and Finzen's Gas Station. He also worked for Swift and Co. for two years before attending Sioux City Barber College from 1953-1954. He owned and operated Havey's Barber Shop in Hawarden from 1954-1974. Then drove the Standard Tank Wagon for Finzen Oil Co. until he retired in 1989. Mr Peters was an active member of United Methodist church. He was past Master of Dale Masonic Lodge in Hawarden and Two Oaks Legion Post of Hawarden.

Survivors inclde his beloved wife; three daughters, Mrs.Rhonda McHaffie of Orlando, FL, Jolee Thurn of Sioux Falls, S.D., Jeri Winn of Hawarden; a brother, Darrell of Sioux City; a sister, Dorothy Finzen of Akron; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

He preceded in death by an infant son David John, and his parents.
