JOHN D. PETERS IS VICTIM OF HEART ATTACK SATURDAY

Last Rites Are Held Tuesday For Esteemed Akron Resident

Coming as a grievous shock to relatives and friends in the community was the sudden passing of a highly respected citizen, John D. Peters, Saturday afternoon, July 26, at the home of his son, Harvey, in Hawarden, where he had been supervising some repair work. His age was 62 years, 10 months and 28 days.

John Dick Peters, son of John Henry and Margaretha (Statslander) Peters was born August 30,1899 at their home near Springfield, Illinois. On September 24,1899, he was baptized into the Lutheran Church and Christian faith at Springfield.

As a child he came with his parents to Plymouth County, Iowa, and confirmed in the Trinity Lutheran church, Akron, April 5, 1914.

He was united in marriage with Miss Mina Hillrichs May 10, 1925. The wedding took place at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hillrichs, in Preston Township. Pastor Theodore Meyer officiated. This union was blessed with two sons and one daughter: Harvey, Darrell and Dorothy. He and his family became members of Immanuel church in September of 1941.

They began farming seven miles east of Akron in 1926 and continued until they moved to Akron in 1937. For several years he operated a garage in Akron. During the last several years he has been engaged in carpenter work.

Mr. Peters was a friendly person, who was unusually careful and conscientious in whatever work he undertook. He was devoted to his family, to his church of which he was an active member, and to his natured manner clearly showed good will and love to all those around him.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Mina; one daughter, Dorothy Finzen, of Akron; two sons, Harvey, of Hawarden and Darrell, of Sioux City; seven four sisters, Mrs. Mamie Lorensen and Mrs. Henrietta Sparks both of Akron, Mrs. Berth Giffrow, of Creve Coeur, Ill., and Mrs. Matilda Fulton, of East Peoria, Illinois; and Herman, of Creve Coeur, Illinois; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one grandson, David John Peters.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in Immanuel Lutheran church, Pastor David Roy officiating. Mrs. Shirley Clark, Mrs. Carol Harris and Mrs. Margaret Peters were vocalists. Mrs. Henning Shoulberg was organist.

Casket bearers were Donald Hillrichs, Lowell Barinsky, Gary Hillrichs, Orville Lorensen, marlin Hillrichs, and Leslie Lorensen.

Interment was in Riverside Cemetery.
