FORMER RESIDENT OF AKRON PASSES AWAY IN ILLINOIS

John Henry Peters Was Farmer Near Here; Local Relatives At Funeral

The following obituary of J. H. Peters, a former Akron resident and remembered by many friends here is taken from the Greenview (Illinois) Review:

John Henry Peters son of Fred and Sophia Peters, was born at Ostfriesland, Germany, on the 6th day of July, 1864, and died at the Memorial Hospital, Springfield, Ill., on July 23, 1943, at the age of 79 years and 17 days.

As a youth he was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith.

Mr. Peters came to the United States in 1881, going to Petersburg, where he worked on farms until September 13, 1894, when he and Margaretia Stadtlander were united in marriage. The young couple moved to Riverton, Ill., where they lived seven years, after which they lived in Akron, Iowa, until 1925, when they returned to Illinois and lived near Greenview until several years ago, when they retired from active farming and moved to Greenview, where they were living at the time of the death of Mr. Peters.

To this union the following children were born: Mrs. Minnie Lorensen, John Peters, Henrietta Lorensen and Mrs. Bertha Griffow, of Akron, Iowa, and Daniel Peters, Mrs. Matilda Fulton and Herman Peters, of Peoria, Illinois.

Besides Mr. Peters and the above named children, Mr. Peters is survived by one sister, Mrs. Meta Schmidt, of Ireton, Iowa; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Two brothers preceded him in death.

The funeral services were held on July 25, 1943,by Rev. C. J. Beehler, with a short services at the home at 1:45 and a service at the St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed church at 2:00 o’clock.

The sons,”I Need Thee Every Hour” and “Take Thou My Hand and Lead me,” were sung by Miss Minnie Kemper as their accompanist.

Those who took care of the flowers were: Mrs. Frank Willhelm, Mrs. Anna Wilken, Mrs.Fred Wilhelm and Mrs. Emma Dirks.

Pall were: James Davison Henry Behrends, William Rathsack, John Sachtelben, William Ulery and Reinhard Ackerman.

Interment was made at Oakhill cemetery, Springfield.

Relatives to attend the funeral services from away were: Mr. and Mrs.John D. Peters, Mrs. Henrietta Lorensen, Mrs. Mamie Lorensen, Mrs. Bertha Giffrow and daughter, Violet Mae, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Lorensen and son, Dennis Lee, all of Akron, Iowa; Miss Opal Lorensen, of Springfield, and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Peters, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Peters and Mr. and Mrs. Guy Fulton, of Peoria
