Willard Wolfswinkel, 83, of Le Mars, died suddenly, Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Willard John Wolfswinkel was born April 28, 1929 in Hospers, the son of Peter and Lillian (Oordt) Wolfswinkel. Willard attended school in Orange City and graduated from Orange City High School in 1946. Following high school he served his country in the United States Navy. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Willard returned to Orange City to attend Northwestern Junior College.

Willard was united in marriage to Carol Reinders on Aug. 23, 1951, in Orange City. Willard worked as a Postal Clerk for the United States Post Office in Le Mars for 38 years, retiring in 1989.

He was a charter member of the Calvin Christian Reformed Church and had served as a deacon and usher for many years. He enjoyed volunteering at church wherever needed.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Carol, of Le Mars; three children: Warren Wolfswinkel and his wife, Mary, of LaCrescenta, Calif., and their son Will, Jane Philips and her husband, Derald, of Le Mars, and their son TJ and his wife Lindsey, and Julie Wells and her husband, Scott, of Lexington, Ky., and their son Grant; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Lillian (Oordt) Wolfswinkel; his parents-in-law, Gary and Jacoba Reinders, and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gerald and Betty Reinders.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Le Mars with Pastor Kenneth Vander Ploeg officiating. Private family interment will be held at West Lawn Cemetery, Orange City. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will continue at the church from 10 a.m. until service time.
