Helen Snow, 95, of Akron, Iowa passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at the Akron Care Center in Akron.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron. Reverend Tanya Sherrill will officiate. Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars. Visitation will be after 3:00 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2013, with the family present after 5:00 p.m. and an Order of Eastern Star Service at 7:00 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron. Helen Dagmar Nelson was born September 3, 1917 in Eagle Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Harrison and Pearl (Monigar) Nelson. She attended school in Eagle Grove and graduated from Eagle Grove High School. She attended college in Chillicothe, Missouri for two years.
She was united in marriage to Wendell Snow on July 15, 1950 in Eagle Grove. They made their home in Akron, Iowa. Helen was a homemaker for her family. Wendell passed away March 16, 2005 in Akron. Helen continued to make her home in Akron. In April of 2011, she became a resident of the Akron Care Center.
Helen was a longtime member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron, having been active in the ladies aide for many years. She was a 50 year member of the Vesper Chapter #61 Order of Eastern Star in Akron where she was a Past Worthy Matron. Through the years, Helen enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, and playing cards. During her time at the Care Center, she played in the Bell Choir. But most of all, she loved the times spent with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her children: a son: Steven (Sharon) Snow of DeQueen, AR; a son: Jim (Doris) Snow of Rapid City, SD; and a daughter: Mary (Joe) Swain of Akron; 9 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and one yet to be born; 1 great great grandson; her sister in law: Janette Nelson of Scottsdale, AZ; and special niece: Sharyn (Noel) Ahman of Remsen, Iowa; and many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wendell; a brother: Orvin Nelson; and two sisters: Frances Hoefle and Melvina Deertz.
