John Bengtson, a resident of Akron and vicinity for nearly ffity years died at his home in this city Saturday morning, August 21, 1926, of pneumonia, at the age of 80 years, 10 months, and 24 days. He had been in failing health for several years and the infirmities of advanced years gradually wore down his rugged constitution and his final illness was of only a few days duration.

John Bengtson was born in Sweden, Beptember 27, 1845. Before coming, to the United States he spent some time in Denamrk and Germany. He arrived in this country. In 1877 and too up farming in Union county, S. D.; (then Dakota territory). On December 8, 1883, he was united in marriage with Miss Anna Halvorsen and to their union nine children were born.

One child preceded him in death.

His departure is mourned by his widow and three sons and five daughters--Bernhard Bengtson, of Forman, N. D.; Mrs. Ed Bratt, of Akron, Iowa; Mrs. Sever Wolden, of Union county, S. D.; Miss Lena Bengtson, of Akron, Iowa; William Bengtson, of Estelline, S. D.; Miss Johephine Bengtson, of Akron, Iowa; Miss Otilla Bengtson, of Sioux City, Iowa, and August Bengtson, of Akron, Iowa. He is also moured by twelve grandchildren. Giving up the arduous duties of farm life he had folled sonce pioneer days in Union county. Mr. Bengtson and family moved to Akron in 1915 and have since made a home here. He was of the best type of citizenship that came from foreign shores to carve out a home in a new country and help establish the solid foundation of our great middle west. His uprightness and integrity, his habits of industry and thrift were fruitful of success in later years and gained for him the esteem and confidence of a wide circle of friends who unite in extending sympathy to his family in their bereavement.

The funeral services were held in the family home Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. O.F. Bohman of the English Lutheran church, of this city, and Rev. C. B. Runsvold of the Norwegian Lutheran church of Union county, S. D. Musical selections were rendered by Mrs. Frank Jacobs, Mrs. Gust Granquist and Rev. Bohman.

The pallbearer were N. P. Nelson, Arthur Wilcox, John Bratt, lester Seeley, Gerdy Groon and H. S. Powell. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.

Relatives who came from a distance were Ben. Bengtson of Forman, N. D. and Wm. Bengtson, of Estelline, S. D.
