Mrs. Bertha Ahrens Buried at Elk Point
Akron Register-Tribune: Mrs. Bertha Ahrens, of Elk Point, S.D.,a former resident of Akron vicinity, passed away at the St. Joseph Hospital, Sioux City, Feb. 4, at the age of 82 years.
Mrs. Ahrens was taken to the hospital after she fel and broke her hip about a month ago, and became ill of pneumonia following the accident.
She was born April 6, 1867, in Germany, and came to the United States and spent her girlhood in Illinois. She was married to William Ahrens Feb. 1, 1888, at Morrison, Ill. To their union nine children were born, two of whom died in infancy.
Aftrer their marriage they moved to the vicinity of Akron, where they farmed for many years. They retgired a few years ago, and moved to Elk Point, which since had been her home. Her husband preceded her in death three years and five months ago.
Mrs. Ahrens was amember of Trinity Lutheran church.
Surviving are two sons, Herman of Akron, and George, of Hawarden, and five daughters, Emma and Maggie, at home; Mrs. Earl Sullivan and Mrs. Ira Tresler, of Akron, and Mrs. Emile Siebels, of Barnston, Nebr., also, 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday in Immanuel Lutheran church at Elk Point, and intermant was in the Elk Point cemetery.
