WILLIAM A. AHRENS CALLED BY DEATH

Rites Held Monday For Well Known Union County Resident

Wm. A. Ahrens, a former well known farmer in Akron vicinity, died at his home in Elk Point, S.D., Friday morning, September 6, 1946, fter a brief illness, at the age of 83 years, 4 months, and 1 day.

William Herman Ahrens was born May 5, 1863, in Germany, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Ahrens. He came to America with his parents when he was about one year of age. They located at Sterling, Illinois, where he grew to young manhood. In February, 1888, he was united in marriage with Bertha G. Chiper. They lived in Illinois until 1890, when they came to Plymouth county, Iowa, and farmed in Grant township, later farming east of Akron and then west of here in Union county, S. D. They have resided in Elk Point since retiring from farm life about nine years ago. Bron to their union were four sons and five daughters. Two sons died in infancy.

Surviving Mr. Ahrens, besides his wife, are two sons, Herman, west of Akron, and George, near Hawarden, and five daughters, Emma and Maggie Ahrens, at home; Mrs. Earl Sullivan and Mrs. Ira Tresler, of Westfield, Ia., and Mrs. Emil Seibels, of Harnston, Neb.; also, fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Their many friends extend sympathy in their bereavement.

Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. from the Hasson funeral home in Elk Point and at 2 p.m. in the Immanuel Lutheran church in that place, conducted by the pastor, Rev. I. G. Hastad. Interment was in the Elk Point cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jas. Murray, Herbert Talbott, Chas. Melton, Peter Anderson, Delbert Randolph and Wm. Sullivan, all of Elk Point.

Relatives from Akron vicinity attended the funeral, also a daughter, Mrs. Emil Seibels, of Barnston, Nebr.
