Akron area native dies in S.D. at 96 Wm. Oaks, 96, former resident of the Akron vicinity passed away May 23,1974 at a Huron, S.D., hospital after a short illness.
Mr. Oaks was born July 20, 1877 at Adaville. He was married to Fanny Marple in 1899. The couple farmed in the Alcester and Hawarden and also worked on various farms in Union county till moving to Oregon. They returned to South Dakota and resided on the farm with their daughter, Mrs. Oliver (Ruby) Haugen. Following the death, of his wife in June 1968, he lived in a trailer home until two weeks prior to his death. Mr. Oaks never lost his mental facilities and enjoyed a visit from his son, Leslie of Hawaii, the week before his death.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ruby Haugen, Covour, S.D., Mrs. Viola Hatch, Springfield, Oregon, and three sons, Fay, Alcester, Kyle, Lemon Grove, Calif., and Leslie of Hawaii. Mr. and Mrs. George Wilkin, Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Wilkin and Harriett Ball attended memorial services on Saturday, May 25 at Huron.
