DEATH SUMMONS ESTEEMED UNION COUNTY WOMAN

Last Rites Are Held For Mrs. Wm. Welch Last Thursday

The Leader Courier, of Elk Point, last week publiched the following obituary of Mrs. Wm. Welch, who formerly lived west of Akron, and has been a resident of Union county, S.D., all of her life:

Elsie May Gardner was born December 6, 1888, in Union County, S. D., being 51 years, 7 months, and 12 days of age at the time of her death, June 18, 1940. Death was caused by a cerebral hemorrhage. She was married to Wm. Welch in the year 1907, and to this union was born a daughter, Mrs. Iva Waterbury, of Elk Point, and an infant son, born in 1918, preceded her in death. They resided in the Pleasant Hill vicinity until nine years ago, when they moved near Elk Point, where she had since resided.

Besides her husband and and daughter, she leaves to mourn her passing, two grandchildren, Donald and Jean Waterbury; her son-in-law, Sylvan Waterbury; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Gardner, of Mound City, S. D.; a brother Roy Gardner, of Jefferson,; a sister Mrs. Grace Maxson, of Santa Monica, Calif.; nephews; Dean Gustafson,of this vicinity; Raymond Gardner, of Jefferson; David Lee Butler, of Boyden, Iowa, and a niece, Doreen Butler, of Santa Monica, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Welch, Mr. and Mrs.. Orville Welch, Mrs. Herbert Swanson, Harley Goodroad, of this county, and Mrs. Andy Miller, of Sioux City, are also relatives, besides many other relatives living at a distance. Many friends and neighbors in both communities where she spent her days wil miss her kindly ways.

Funeral servies were held this (Thursday) afternoon at 1:30 at the house and at 3 o'clock at the Pleasant Hill United Brethren church and interment in the cemetery there. Rev. E. V. Puckett, of Vermillion, conducted the service.

The pallbearers were Orris Bernard, Harry Weaver, Mike Conway, Elmer Klemme, Richard C. Hamilton and Fred Waag.
