Was Early Pioneer Resident

Brief mention was made in this paper last week of the accidental death of J. I.A. Johnson of San Fransisco, Calif., on Friday, September 15, 1933. Mr. Johnson fell off a ladder while doing some work at this home and sustained injuries which caused his death.

John I.A. Johnson was born in Ovansha Parish, Province of Jafleborg, Sweden, in 1844. Coming to this country in 1865, he stopped awhile in Illinois and then located near Swea City, Iowa. In 1867, hearing about Dakota, he came to Union County in the spring of 1868 and homesteaded the farm which became his home until he moved to San Francisco, Calif., twenty years ago.

On January 1, 1872, he married Margaret Hanson, and to this union was born eleven children, eight of whom preceded him in death-Mrs. Mary Thompson, Miss Julia A., Mrs. Katie Healey, Mrs. Ruth Nilson, Anna and Johanna (who died in infancy), Oscar and Adolph. His wife, Margaret died in 1909. In 1913 he married Miss Sophie Matilda Johnson, who survives, along with three sons, Andrew B. of Union County, SD; John O., of Gentry, Ark., and Arthur A. of Beaver Valley, Canada besides 23 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, who, with many other relatives and friends, sincerely mourn his departure. He attained the ripe age of 89 years last May, and his long life was filled with usefullness and good deeds.

The remains arrived in Akron last Friday, accompanied by his widow. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon in the Christian church, conducted by Rev. W.H. McDonald, and were largely attended by old time acquaintances and friends. Interment was in Riverside cemetary.
