RITES ARE HELD LAST WEEK FOR WESTFIELD MAN
Hiram Lias Was A Lifelong Resident Of This Vicinity
Briefly mentioned in these columns last week was the death of Hiram Lias of Westfield, a resident of Akron during his young manhood. He passed away of a sudden heart attack Monday morning, November 16, at the Westfield Community School bus barn while preparing to start on his morning route. He had served for some time as a bus driver and maintenance man at the Westfield school.
Hiram H. Lias was born January 28, 1904, in Akron, Iowa, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lias. He attained the age of 60 years, 9 months and 19 days. He spent his boyhood here and graduated from Akron High school. A number of years ago he bacame a resident of Westfield. he was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Richland (S. D.) Methodist Church, of the Masonic Lodge and Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
Survivors include three brothers, Vernon and Wayne, of Westfield, and Melvin of Pittsford, N. Y., and a sister, Mrs. Ruby Lingle, of McCook Lake, Union County, S. D.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at Richland Methodist church, Rev. Thomas Chaffee officiating. Mrs. Donald Banks was soloist and Mrs. Keith Knapp was pianist. Casket bearers were Percival Peterson, Donald Hamson, Willis Morse, Tom Hansen, Merle DeBoehr and Clarence Kroeger. Interment was in Akron Riverside cemetery, with graveside rites by Elk Point Lodge, A. F. & A. M.
