Randolph Payne Passes Away Well Known Banker In Kingsley

Randolph Payne, 78, leading citizen and banker of Kingsley for many years, died at his home Sunday after an extended illness.

Mr. Payne was born in London, England, February 6, 1862. With his brothers, William and Frank, he came to Le Mars In 1881. They engaged In farming near Seney for a few years. Randolph Payne went to Vermillion, S. D., In 1886 and engaged in banking. In 1893 he went to Kingsley and bought an interest in the Bank of Kingsley. Mr. Payne was married to Hannah Mansfield who came from Ireland to Le mars in the early eighties. Their marriage took place August 10 1886, in St. George’s Episcopal church here.

He is survived by his wife a son’, W. R. Payne, of Benton Harbor, Mich., a daughter, Mrs. Lloyd Evans, of Schaller, Iowa. There are five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A son, Harold Payne, died in April, 1937, at Kingsley.

Funeral services will be held at Kingsley at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon.

Mr. Payne was a member of the Masonic order. He was interested and active in community affairs. In his younger days he was an athlete of some prowess. He was a most likeable man, sincere and honest and enjoyed the esteem of hundreds of friends.
