RITES HELD HERE LAST WEEK FOR WALTER A. LARSEN

Heart Attack Fatal To Former Akron Man On Sunday, May 15

Briefly chronicled in these columns last week was the death of Walter A. Larsen, a former well-known Akron resident and business man, who departed this life after a brief illness at Sacred Heart hospital in Yankton, S. D., Sunday, May 15, as the result of a heart attack, aged 55 years, 6 months and 2 days.

Walter Alfred Larsen was born in Norre Aaby, Denmark, November 13, 1904. At the age of six weeks, or on January 1, 1905, he was baptized in the Lutheran church there. He was confirmed April 13, 1919. When he was a youth of 18 he came to America, in May, 1923, locating in Appleton, Minnesota, where his brother, Otto, and wife were living. He worked chiefly at Forest City, Iowa, until he came to Akron in 1928. Here in Akron he joined his brother, Otto, in the creamery business in which he continued until in 1955, when he moved to a farm southwest of Akron. In January, 1959, he bought a drier creamery business in Yankton and took up his residence there. At the time of his death he was part owner of Our Place Cafe and Steak House in South Yankton.

On June 1, 1934, he was united in marriage with Miss Lucille Kelsey in Sioux City Iowa. One daughter, Diane, came to bless their union. They made their home in Akron until they moved to Yankton early in 1959. Mr. Larsen joined Immanuel Lutheran church here in 1937 and was a member of this church at the time of his death. He was active in his business, in other activities and was never content unless he was busy working.

Those who remain to mourn his departure are: His wife, Lucille; his daughter, Diane, at home; his sister, Mrs. Mary Anderson, of Artesian, South Dakota; his two brothers –in his country, Otto, of Akron, and Lewis, of Newton, Iowa; his three brothers and sister in Denmark, Mrs. Laura Jensen, Johannus, SvendAage and Carl; a number of other relatives and his many friends.

His brother, Andrew, and his sister, Anna, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon of last week in Immanuel Lutheran church in Akron, Rev. David J. Roy officiating. Vocalists were Mrs. Arnold Clark, Mrs, Stuart Harris and Mrs. Kenneth Peters. Mrs. Henning Shoulberg was organist. Pallbearers were Walter Dirks, Lyle Jacobs, Walter Johnson, Dr. C. R. Mason, Grant Gassman and Robert Kerr, Sr. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
