HOLD LAST RITES FOR JOHN H. SYKES

Long-time Resident Of This Community Dies Tuesday, May 17

John H. Sykes, a long-time resident of this community, passed away after a prolonged illness at his home here at 7:15 p. m., Tuesday, May 17, 1960, at the age of 67 years, 10 months and 10 days.

Mr. Sykes was born to John H. and Grace S. Sykes on July 7, 1892, near Ida Grove, Iowa, in Hayes township, and spent his early life there. As a young man he moved to Newburg, Oregon, where he met and later married Cora B. Morey, June 19, 1912. To this union was born two sons and three daughters. Soon after their marriage they moved to the Akron community and engaged in farming until retiring a few years ago. Mr. Sykes was a member of Wesley Methodist church and upon moving to Akron in 1947 he served his church as a member of the board of trustees. He was held in high esteem among a host of friends, who extend condolence to the bereaved relatives.

Surviving besides his wife, Cora; are one son, Jay, of Milford, Iowa; three daughters. Pearl (Mrs. Leon D. Henessee), of Skokie, Ill.; Bonnie, (Mrs. Edward J. Hoschler), of Ontario, Calif., and Dorothea (Mrs. Frank L. Wetzel), of Colorado Springs, Colo.; also, by three sisters, one brother, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One son, Clifford Eugene, died in infancy.

Funeral services were held' last Friday afternoon a,t Wesley Methodist church, Rev. C. L. Guinn officiating. Mrs. C. L. Guinn, vocalist, sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” and "The Twenty-third Psalm." Mrs. Orin Harris was accompanist. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
