FORMER RESIDENT CALLED BY DEATH
Rites Held Tuesday In Sioux City For Mrs. Cora Swift
The following obituary of a former esteemed Akron woman is taken from Tuesday's Sioux City Journal. Mrs. Cora Swift, 78, 1118 W. Third street, a former juvenile officer in Sioux City, died Sunday night at a hospital after a one-week illness.
Mrs. Swift was born August 1, 1882 at Vermillion, where she resided until her marriage there to Burton D. Swift on August 1, 1900. The Swifts lived at Akron, Ia., for four years before moving to Sioux City. Mr. Swift died there. September 28, 1952.
Mrs. Swift was a juvenile officer there from 1908 to 1915. During recent years she was a receptionist at the W. Harry Christy funeral home in Morningside, retiring in 1959. She was a 55-year member of Whitfield Methodist church, a member of the church's Woman's Society of Christian Service, the W. C. T. U. and the Order of Railroad Conductors auxiliary.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Thomas D. Lycan of Monrovia, Calif., and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p. m. today (Tuesday) at Whitfield Methodist church. Rev. S. Willard Cunningham of Dubuque, la., former pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery at Akron. Pallbearers were Hugh W. Swift, Burton Swift and Leonard Klemme, all of Akron; Dernell Swift, James Speichinger and Harold Dean, all of Sioux City.
