DEATH SUMMONS MISS MARY AHRENS

Rites Are Held Here For Union County Woman Monday Afternoon

Miss Mary Ahrens, a resident of Akron vicinity for many years, passed away at the State Hospital, Yankton, S. D., on Saturday, March 29, 1941, at 10 a. m., of tuberculosis, at the age of 58 years, 11 months and 29 days.

Freda Mary Christine Ahrens was born April 1, 1882, at Sterling, Ill., where she was baptized in the Lutheran church on June 25,1882, In 1894. she came to Akron, Iowa, with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Ahrens.

On April 3, 1898 she was confirmed here in Trinity Lutheran church. Her health failing, she went to Colorado to seek relief, returning home in 1922; but in 1924 she again went west to Colorado and New Mexico, where she remained until 1927.

In December, 1927, she was taken to the State Hospital at Yankton and continued as a patient there until the time of her death. Friends of her younger days will remember her as one of sweet and lovable character, and the sympathy of all goes out to the near relatives in their sorrow.

She is survived by three brothers, George, Arthur and Herman Ahrens, of Akron vicinity, and two sisters, Mrs. Delia Willing, of Alcester, S. D., and Mrs. Hedwig Kurle, of Java, S. D.; also by a number of other relatives.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 31, at 2:15 p. m. at Rossow's Funeral Home and at 2:30 at
Trinity Lutheran church, Rev. Fred A. Meske officiating. The pallbearers were Martin, George and Henry Kleihauer, Harry and Richard Eden and Edward Zachow. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.

Among those coming from a distance were; Mr. and Mrs. Rudolf Kurle, of Javes, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Eden Richard and Florence Eden, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. DeWall, of Alpena, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. John Eden, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Eden, Mr. and Mrs. Ebbo Wilms and sons Louis and Howard, and daughters, Ida and Velma, of Alcester, S. D..
